Coach Pat Summitt: I Was Forced Out By The University of Tennessee
This story just pisses me off but I don’t think too many folks outside of Tennessee even know about it….
The revelation came to light in an affidavit (i.e., a sworn written statement) Summitt filed on behalf of a colleague who is suing the school in federal court for age and gender discrimination. Summitt currrently holds the title of head coach emeritus. Former assistant Holly Warlick took over as head coach of the Lady Vols after Summitt’s resignation.
CNN reports the specifics of the Pat Summitt affidavit filed in court yesterday:
“In her affidavit, Summitt described a meeting in March with athletic director Dave Hart, in which she said she was told she would no longer be coach after 38 seasons. Summit wrote in her affidavit that she had wanted to make that decision herself.
” ‘This was very surprising to me and very hurtful,’ ” Summitt wrote in her affidavit.”
Reuters adds that Summitt further explained in the affidavit that the decision to resign was one that “I would have liked to have made on my own at the end of the season after consulting with my family, doctors, colleagues and friends, and not be told this by Mr. Hart. I felt this was wrong.”
Hart reportedly told Summitt later that she had misinterpreted what he said in their March 14 private meeting.
Federal law makes it illegal to discriminate in employment against a qualified individual with a disability.
The most coveted trophy in women’s college basketball could soon be named after legendary Coach Pat Summitt.
A Lady Vols fan in Minneapolis is petitioning the NCAA to name the Women’s College Basketball Championship trophy after Summitt.
More than 3000 people have already signed the petition, but it needs a few thousand more people to join.

Tip-off week is finally here! I couldn’t be happier! One thing naws at me. This is my first season my BELOVED Lady Vols are without their Coach Pat Summitt. It hurts just to type that.
Growing up in Austin, TX I always envied little girls that got to grow up in Knoxville, TN. The thought of watching the Lady Vols anytime I wanted was beyond imagine. I made my mom travel all over Texas and Oklahoma whenever they came close to Austin during basketball season. So yeah, I’ve always been a HUGE fan of the team.
Hearing news last season of Coach Summitt’s illness was such a blow to me and the rest of Vols Nation. I knew she would be fine though. Coach has always been tough as nails and well, she’s just flat out rich. Lol It’s this time of year that I didn’t know if I could turn to a Lady Vols game and watch a Summitt-less team. It hurts knowing that she’s going through such an ordeal. However I watch this video and can’t help but to smile, even though I cried the first time, and be grateful that Pat Summitt gave me such fond memories of basketball. THANKS COACH! PRAYING FOR YOU!!!
