Queen Underwood: Having a tough mental attitude. Being mentally prepared with anything drives you. Whenever you feel you are having a bad day a tough mental attitude will push you. You have to be mentally.
WGG2: Your favorite athlete growing up and why?
QU: Dominique Dawes, Marion Jones and Kerri Strug …. They were/are tremendous athletes and overcame obstacles.
WGG2: Which peers do you admire now?
QU: Katie Taylor is in weight class I admire her accomplishments but I see it as a goal to strive for. I know once I reach it my achievements would have been met.
WGG2: What got you into boxing?
QU: I was introduced by my uncle at a young age. I was amazed by all of his belts. I was a runner at the time and didn’t really think about boxing soon after track I tried it and loved it.
WGG2: One word to describe being an Olympian…
QU: First – The word first comes to mind … Understanding exactly what that means and understanding that no one can take that from me. I was the FIRST U.S. woman ever to box in the Olympics. That is history and I will always be known as the FIRST
WGG2: If you could play another sport, which one would it be and why?
QU: Basketball – It was my first love; it is fun and I always have fun out there on the court. It is super easy but I think that is because of the shape I am in.
WGG2: Favorite place boxing has taken you?
QU: London is my favorite place because it was the highlight of my career thus far.
WGG2: What would you say to any women considering getting into boxing?
QU: Boxing certainly is not for everyone however with a little determination and hard work, it could be. Boxing is a sport that whatever you put into it you will definitely get out of it. What I like about Boxing is that you grow inside and outside of the ring. It takes a great deal of discipline and it is intense training
WGG2: Batman or Superman and why?
QU: I’m not sure I could choose one over the other. I would say a little bit of both. On one hand you have Superman who has these great powers. I like the name and the branding of the S on the chest. Then you have Batman who has all of the cool gadgets. Not to mention his underground pad. So I would definitely say a little bit of both. Could you imagine both as one person? Now that would be nice.
