The third-place tie in the women’s 100-meter final will be broken by a run-off or a coin flip, officials announced Sunday.
After a review of Saturday’s final, it was determined that Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh finished in a dead heat (at 11.068 seconds) for the third and final qualifying spot on the women’s 100-meter Olympic team. That determination was made after review of photographic evidence, reversing the initial result that found Tarmoh finished third.
The Lopez family’s Olympic taekwondo dynasty lives on, though in slightly diminished form this time around. On a bittersweet night of Olympic trials, siblings Steven and Diana Lopez won their fights to earn a return trip to the games, but their brother, Mark, lost a tight contest in Saturday’s last bout. All won medals in the 2008 Olympics. Diana, meanwhile, is going to her second Olympics. She won bronze in the 57-kilogram weight division in 2008. On Saturday, she defeated Danielle Holmquist 3-1.
